All right – I confess that the first time I cast this rod I was a little jaded about the price and my opinion of the rod’s predecessor (the TCR). I read the advertisements and did not think that Sage could deliver what it was preaching…
Boy was I wrong!
After getting the TCX in stock I was obliged to play with it a little more - and I fell head over heels for it. It is super light weight and the Generation 5 graphite is remarkable to say the least. Bunny streamers or wind resistant dry flies: no problem. This rod can load ‘em up and shoot ‘em out and still hit those little 20 foot casts with enough finesse to get the job done with delicacy. Furthermore; cheesy or not - I really like the light green color. The TCX seems to be a little too stiff to want to roll cast and mend as well as some other rods; but for dries, streamers and ego boosting casts - she gets it done!
I just bought an 890-4 for myself and plan on breaking her in on some Islamorada bonefish in the next couple of months. I'll let you know how it goes...
This fly rod is a grand slam home run! Everybody should own one.
